Memorial Day 2017

Today was our last day in Austria.

After breakfast walk down to the lake.... just the two of them!
After packing up the apartment we went down to the little beach club in town.
These two immediately got to work on their tans!!

Aiden showing off! lol!

FINALLY... they get in!  YES!!!

The 3 of them took the paddle boat out for a spin

Jeremy thought he was buying us an hour of tubing.... instead he bought us a half hour boat tour of the lake.  lol!
The kids tried to not act too disappointed that they weren't going tubing

Here you can see the gondola that we went up on the first day.  It doesn't seem as high up there from this view.
This old church was a monastery for 500 years!
Finally we got the wording right and got the boys some time on the tubes!  They were so happy!!

Love those smiles!!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!!

After getting home from vacation Jeremy had to turn around the next morning to go to Germany for the week for work.  The kids and I were busy with the end of the season practices for track (Whitney) and baseball (Aiden) and studying for finals (Connor)!

End of the Season Track Meet

The track season ended with a final track meet.
Whitney competed in the 50 meter race, the long jump and the shot put.

I was one of the timers so I didn't get any pictures of Whitney running :(

Track friends!
Going for the long jump!

Jeremy was the official sand raker all day

Throwing an 8 pound shot put.  It was heavier than it looked!

Part of the team with our 2 great coaches!!

Whitney placed 3rd in the 50m race for her age!!!  woo hoo!!!

Fun day!!!

Parents vs Kids final baseball game

The season is over so we had one last game with parents and kids.  I got there too late to play but Jeremy played hard enough for the both of us! haha!!

Jeremy walked Aiden!! lol!

Buddy Bench

Well... we got the bench sanded, put together, and painted but....  The paint job didn't turn out so good.  It was drying on top of cardboard and got stuck during a few hot, humid nights.  It was heartbreaking to see on Monday morning when we were hoping to surprise the kids with the finished bench.

The kids didn't care!  They kept telling me how good it looked and thanking me repeatedly!!  They are such sweet kids!!

Whitney is be awarded her certificate for completing student council.  She was actually only elected as the runner up but the kid who won for her class only went to 2 meetings before he quit because it was "boring".  All the other classes had 2 kids per class and Whitney always had to do everything on her own.  I'm really proud of her for being a great student rep and taking this responsibility really seriously this year!!

Good Job Whitney!!

Also this week....  since Whitney turned 10 last week she got to get her official military ID card.  Kinda a big deal if you live on a U.S. Army installation!
Willards

We had some friends living with us for the last couple of weeks.  They actually moved to Italy the same time as us and we met them in the same hotel we lived in for the first 3 months after moving to Italy.  They are getting out of the Army and moving back to the U.S. and stayed with us for a couple weeks in between!
For the last 2 weeks these guys have been catching snails and feeding them and caring for them in hopes they would make a delicious dinner on their last night here.

They looked up special recipes and made a delicious sauce to cook them in.

Unfortunately, they didn't turn out so good! lol!  We all had to get gelato afterwards!  Everyone except Connor... he stayed home.

Memorial Day 2017

Jeremy booked an apartment on the Austrian/Slovenian border for Memorial Day weekend.
I wasn't really excited about this trip.  One reason is that we have been to both countries countless times and I couldn't figure out why he would spend the time booking another trip there!  Oh my....  I couldn't have been more wrong!!!  It was a really wonderful location and vacation!!

Our gorgeous apartment!

I couldn't get over that view!!  And... the best part was that we left all the windows and doors open all day/night long. No screens!  Over the entire weekend we saw ONE mosquito.  ONE!  And it was big and slow and easy to kill.  Not like these sneaky, fast, so tiny you can't see them mosquitos that they have in Italy!

Ready for fun and relaxation!!!
We found a nice Austrian restaurant for dinner

Great dinner!  So far so good!

These cars were everywhere... they were having a VW Golf convention not far from the town where we were staying and we saw them all over town during the weekend.

The next morning, Jeremy and I got up early to go for a walk/jog.  Well.... he went for a jog.  I was only in it for the view!

And I was lucky to find a little love on my way!

We brought back breakfast for the kiddo's who were just waking up

After breakfast we went up the Gondola to the top of the Gerlitzen mountain which was right behind out apartments!
The views were breathtaking!

We got to watch this lady take off right from where we were standing! The boys wanted to do it so bad!!

Whitney insisted on wearing this dress all weekend.  It was just perfect for our hike down the mountain.  She really looked like she belonged in the Sound of Music!!

The kids developed a deep love for Mozart balls during this trip!

We went to the closest, larger city for dinner - Villach

We found the BEST restaurant!  They had a live Austrians band there that was the icing on the cake!

We ate SO MUCH FOOD!!!  We just kept ordering food and drinks until the sun went down.  It was so fun!!

The next morning we had a good, hearty breakfast because we were going to have an action-packed day!!

We went to Slovenia to go White Water Rafting

Whitney trying to get her wet suit on! haha!!

Just about ready!

We had water wars with the people in the other raft
We found a nice place half way down the river to stop for a break

There was a little current that the boys were riding down the river

Then the boys tag teamed me and made me go down the current!

I thought I was going to die....

But, it was actually a lot of fun!
A few rough patches

We made it!!

After the rafting, Connor and Aiden were playing and Aiden got some dirt in Connor's eye.  Poor Connor!
I pulled so much gunk out of his eye and then it hurt him for the rest of the night

That night for dinner we found an interesting place right on the water

These two played until dinner was ready.  Connor's eye still hurt... :(

Yum!!
Homemade Austrian cake for dessert.  Soooooo good!!

I don't think Connor ever even saw the view at dinner.  He was pretty bummed all night and his eye hurt.
The other two played until the sun went down. It was  a fun day!  (except for the eye incident!)
