Plumber in Kansas City
This is for all of you Kansas City readers....
We had a plumbing incident a couple of days ago and didn't know who to call. I got a referral from my neighbor. She highly recommended this guy and went on to say "no matter what you do, DO NOT call Roger the Plumber." She told me many stories of hers and friends of hers who have been totally ripped off by them. They will come and do a good job but will grossly overcharge for any work they do.
We called Dave Selders Plumbing, Inc. Dave came out within a few hours and went above and beyond to fix our problem. He saw that my hands were full with kids so he moved all the boxes, etc. on the floor that were getting wet for me. Then he fixed 2 other things in the house that were not working right too. I needed a part for the bathtub. He knew it would be hard for me to go out and get the part with all the kids so he actually went to the hardware store and bought it for me (using a coupon even!) and came back to install it. All of this and he only charged for 1 hour of time - he was here longer.
I was so impressed I wanted to make sure all my friends/family in the area knew about him. It's so hard to know who to call when something breaks. Let me know if you need a number.

Thanksgiving in Kentucky
We drove to Kentucky for a southern-style Thankgiving with the Cooks. We got the royal treatment. The boys just loved the southern hospitality! Jeremy seemed right at home too. Within 30 minutes he had the southern drawl and was making jokes just like everyone else. If you didn't know better, you would have thought he was part Cook himself! We had such a warm welcome and felt so loved!
Here are some pics taken Thanksgiving day:

I would have taken more pics but after dinner Whitney fell asleep in my arms. I held her for an hour while she slept. When she woke up she felt really hot. I thought it was just because I was holding her next to my body during her nap. Jeremy took her outside to cool off for about 10 minutes. He brought her back in and I was holding her for just another couple of minutes before her whole body got tight and her arms and legs were jerking unconrollably. Her head fell back and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. She was having a seizure!
My Uncle Timmy immediately ran out the door and got in his van. We followed. He drove like a mad man to the ER. During the drive Whitney started frothing at the mouth. She couldn't hardly breath from all the saliva in her mouth and throat. We ran into the ER, which was empty, and they immediately hooked her up to a respirator, gave her a suppository to stop the convulsions, and suctioned out all the gunk from her lungs. After about 1 minute she finally stopped jerking, but she was still out of it. You could see her eyes but you could tell she wasn't "there". She wouldn't focus on anything. Her little body just laid there, hooked up to all the tubes. It was, by far, the scariest thing we had ever seen!
Her seizure seemed to last forever, but in reality, (thanks to my Uncle Timmy and the incredible staff at the hospital) from the time her seizure started to the time she was laying in the hospital bed it was only about 4 or 5 minutes. I didn't even think about the boys as I rushed Whitney to the van. They came running out as Jeremy and I got in the van yelling "Mommy, what's going on?" I felt so bad and now realize how scary that must have been for them. I just said "Stay with Aunt Shirley!" and knew that they would be fine because Shirley and everyone else was there.
After 3 hours her fever finally came down and she was acting more like herself (but not completely). Timmy and Jeremy gave her a blessing while we were there which I appreciated more than I have ever appreciated the blessings of the priesthood. I was so grateful to have 2 priesthood holders in the ER with my little girl.
Aparently her seizure was brought on by the sudden increase in temperature. No infection was found so we were released. Her fever didn't let up the entire time we were there so we had to keep in down with medicine around the clock in order to prevent another seizure. I was so scared she would seize again, I didn't leave her side for a second! 2 days later she developed sores all over her lips, tongue, inside her cheeks and throat. The sores were also infected and made her hoarse. It turned out she had Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. She is still totally miserable and can't eat or drink anything without pain.
This definitely made for a memorable Thanksgiving. I am just so grateful that I was holding Whitney when it started, that Uncle Timmy acted so quickly to get us to the hospital, that my wonderful family was there and took such good care of the boys (they had a ball the whole time we were gone), that the hospital staff were not busy and were so so so helpful, comforting, and knowledgeable, that Whitney could receive a priesthood blessing, and that she didn't have another seizure during the rest of our trip. Jeremy and I both prayed like we had never prayed before and feel that our prayers were answered.
Whitney has a 20% chance of having another seizure within the next 6 months and if she does then she has a 20% chance of developing a lasting seizure disorder. So anytime she gets the least bit warm all measures need to be taken right away to prevent a fever.

Shirley and Phillip's farm
Here are some more pics from Kentucky. My Aunt and Uncle's farm was probably the highlight of the trip for the kids and Kayla! They still live on the same farm where I remember playing as a little girl. I loved it too!
